Matt Trotta is a tax, trusts, and estates lawyer at Field Law in Calgary, with a primary practice focus on creating tailored, pragmatic, and effective solutions to address the specific needs and circumstances of clients and their families. Matt has represented clients in tax, trust and estate matters at the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, Tax Court of Canada, and Federal Court of Canada. Matt has been designated a Trusts & Estates Practitioner by STEP and has completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Course. Matt has also been cited by the Thomson Reuters’ Practitioner’s Income Tax Act, Thomson Reuters’ Taxation of Corporate Reorganizations, and the McCarthy Tetrault Canada Tax Service. Matt has been recognized by the Canadian Tax Foundation for his co-authored article titled “Trust Residence Post-Fundy” on residency of trusts and best drafting practices.
Prior to joining Field, Matt practiced at a national law firm in Calgary, as well as a boutique tax and business law firm in Calgary where he specialized in estate planning, estate administration, and solving related tax, corporate, and litigation issues. Matt also gained in-house experience at one of Canada’s largest trust companies, where he was responsible for providing estate planning and estate administration guidance and solutions to estate and trust clients, advisers, and planners.
