I really appreciate the financial support provided by the ARTA Certificate/ Diploma Scholarship that I was fortunate enough to receive. I am currently studying at Grande Prairie Regional College to achieve a Diploma in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting. I have just started my second year, and I hope to achieve my diploma at the end of this year. My plan for the future is to become an accountant. I play the trumpet in the Grande Prairie Regional College Wind Ensemble. I enjoy music as a hobby and intend to continue to play in ensembles in the future.

I am currently working as an EMT for an ambulance service in central Alberta, and I find it to be a very rewarding experience. Working with other skilled professionals has given me the advantage of creating a solid foundation upon which to build my skills and knowledge; and for the past year, I have been attending full-time school to earn my diploma in Paramedicine. I believe that returning to school is an important part of my continuing education goal and it will help me better serve the members of my community. When I graduate in January 2016, my upgraded education will allow me to explore other options within my career choice, including international relief work and teaching. I also hope to continue to work closely with the RCMP and the members of my community, as well as travel abroad with companies such as Global Medic. My job gives me a great sense of pride and enjoyment, and I look forward to expanding the possibilities within my career. It is not only the exhilarating moments on the ambulance, but the close calls and taxing experiences that have led to my growth as a person. With the continued support of my family and a mature understanding of my own strengths and weaknesses, I am excited for what my future holds. The greatest career advice, given by Steve Jobs, resonates in my mind when I ponder my decision to be here, “In your life you only get to do so many things and right now we’ve chosen to do this, so let’s make it great.” I would like to extend an enormous thank you to ARTA for the generous scholarship and for supporting me in my dreams to become a paramedic!
