Government of Canada Eases Travel Restrictions

On February 15, 2022, the Government of Canada announced it will adjust its global travel advisory from a Level 3 (avoid non-essential travel) to a Level 2 (exercise a high degree of caution) effective February 28, 2022, at 12:01 am EST. This means the Government will no longer recommend that Canadians avoid travel for non-essential purposes.

It is our understanding that the Level 4 travel advisory to avoid all cruise ship travel due to COVID-19 will remain in place for the time being. We are following this closely and will communicate any changes when they happen.

We know you may have questions but remember – we’ve been here before.

In the meantime, here is some initial guidance to help you navigate this new change.

ARTA plans now cover covid emergency medical expenses as of February 1, 2022, whether there is an advisory in effect or not.

Please note:

  • COVID-19 remains a known event for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption. Therefore, for policies with Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits that were purchased on or after March 11, 2020, any Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption claims related to previous or future Government of Canada travel advisories connected to COVID-19 will continue to not be payable.
  • Denied boarding: There is no benefit for denied boarding under Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption benefits within our standard plans.

Benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.
