Winners of the 50th Anniversary Photo Contest

The success of this first Photography Contest sponsored by ARTA indicates that it is the type of activity that has the potential to involve many of our members. Fifty-plus participants submitted a total of seventy-three prints for judging. A few prints were disqualified as they did not meet all the requirements as outlined in the rules. The most common reasons for disqualification were that the print was not mounted to a more rigid backing or that the print was matted.

The three judges, all professional photographers with judging experience, were high in their praise of the quality of the submissions and found the task of selecting the winners a difficult one, especially in the People category.

Following this year’s success, the 50th Anniversary Committee has made a strong recommendation to ARTA that the Photography Contest be a yearly event. Consequently, details of the 2014 ARTA Photography Contest will appear in the winter issue of news&views and on the website. As a result of this year’s experience, there will be minor changes made to the categories and the regulations.

We also want to advise all participants in the 2013 contest that the ARTA staff are busy investigating ways to utilize not only the winners but most of the other submissions received as well.
