Winners of the 2022 Photo Contest
Going through all the photos was an awe-inspiring task this year, seeing the creative ways ARTA members approached our theme of “Ten” and “Making It.” We continued with our Travel and Nature categories this year and were blown away at all levels by the photographs. Everything from spectacular vistas, colourful beaches, stunning mountain ranges, incredible wildlife, and markets from Europe, Africa, and Asia.
The 2022 Photo Contest received over 200 submissions. This was our second year running the Novice and Master categories, which means we have many new winners this year who will get to compete in 2023 (and beyond) in the Master category. The winners in the Novice categories stood out amongst a very large field of submissions this year and truly showed they were ready to compete at the next level. Our Master category winners put out their best work to rise to the challenge of competing against other previous winners.
On a personal note, this was the first time I worked with the ARTA Photo Contest. I will admit it was an intimidating task knowing the history of the contest, but it gave me my first chance to interact with ARTA members and that was, for me, one of the most rewarding aspects of the contest. Thank you to all the ARTA members I could converse with via email or speak with on the phone. Your passion and excitement for the Photo Contest inspired me to treat this project with the same enthusiasm, encouraged by all your phenomenal photographs.
It was no easy task for our judges to choose winners. There was a fierce debate in some categories, as ARTA members submitted exquisite images once again. After the dust settled, the winners and honourable mentions were chosen.
Thank you to everyone who participated. The talent our members have for the camera is truly special. Congratulations to our winners this year. We can’t wait to see your photos and passion for the
contest in 2023.
We’re pleased to welcome a new guest judge this year, Korena Paradis. Korena has been running her own portrait photography business in Alberta for the last ten years, capturing special moments and helping people put their best foot forward through professional photoshoots. She is a member of the Canadian Photography Association, her work has been featured in a variety of magazines around the world, and she was recently chosen as one of Edmonton Communities’ Top Picks for Photographers. Thank you, Korena, for lending your keen eye and expertise to this year’s photo contest.

“I believe a Making It photograph requires a ‘precise moment of the entire action!’
“That’s exactly what I looked for in choosing my photo. I wanted to make certain the eye could see the product and all the peripheral action around it as it is being made. Every pen we make has the same action and surrounding mess!”

“For an image to be considered good it should use light and colour to create a compelling composition, display emotion, tell a story and capture a meaningful or unique moment.
