June is Brain Injury Awareness Month
Every year, over 5000 Albertans suffer a head injury. Many of those injuries result in long-term effects on the patient’s brain and a range of health consequences, some of which are permanent.
The Alberta Brain Injury Initiative, which is a network of agencies across the province, supports adults with an acquired brain injury to help them “live, work and participate in their communities” and also supports their families with services that include the following.
• information about brain injuries and available resources
• needs assessments
• referrals, service plans and service agreements as needed
• identification of and applications for benefits and services as needed
