Urban Poling Nordic Walking
Urban poling ( aka Nordic walking) combines an upper body technique similar to cross country skiing with the lower body technique of regular walking. The terms, “Nordic walking” and “urban poling ” are interchangeable.
The use of poles improves balance, eases hill climbing, and provides stability when walking downhill.
Poling lessens stress to hips, knees and ankles. Poling improves posture and uses 90 % of the body’s muscles ( source: German Nordic Fitness Asso.), strengthening the core muscles.
The ARTA Wellnes committee is planning pole walking workshops this fall in High River on October19 and a spring session in Leduc in 2014.
