ARTA’s mission is to support an engaged lifestyle after retirement through member-centred services, advocacy, communication, wellness, and leadership.
Our focus in this mission is always our wonderful members, but over the past several months, ARTA has also extended our support to the larger community through a variety of initiatives.
ARTA staff have been donating blood with Canadian Blood Services for the past year. Seven ARTA staff members participated in June 2024.
While Edmonton Meals on Wheels, a downtown non-profit, provides services to anyone facing a barrier to preparing nutritious meals, it serves a large population of local seniors. It offers a wide variety of customizations for special dietary needs — including gluten-free, halal, special diets for diabetes or kidney disease, or those who need their meals diced or pureed. On June 25 and 26, fifteen ARTA staff members worked three different shifts, helping to prepare the over three hundred meals for their daily distribution.
Operation Friendship Seniors Society serves Edmonton’s inner-city seniors, providing care without judgment to improve the quality of life for those over 55 years of age who are in need. ARTA has a long history volunteering with OFSS, and a team of four continued the tradition on July 24.
Then there’s the ARTCF Charity Golf Classic, in support of the Alberta Retired Teachers Charitable Foundation, held on July 8, 2024. This beautiful (and hot!) day saw 140 golfers take to the course, was generously supported by many sponsors and prize donors, and had fifteen ARTA staff and fourteen ARTA members volunteer their time to ensure the success of the tournament. Altogether, over $27,000 was raised in support of the charitable foundation, which supports seniors in Alberta in the areas of housing, health care, and English as a Second Language education.
Thank you to all who support and volunteer their time to better the communities we live in.
