The Government of Canada has issued an official travel advisory to “avoid all travel” to Ukraine and to certain parts of Russia. If you had plans to travel to either country or are currently in a neighbouring country, continue to monitor travel.gc.ca for travel advisories and updates that may impact your travels.

Emergency Medical Insurance

If you were in Ukraine and covered by ARTA’s Emergency Travel insurance before the travel advisory was issued, your coverage for sudden and unforeseen medical emergencies unrelated to the travel advisory remains in effect. However, you must be advised that injuries sustained due to an act of war are not considered to be eligible under the benefit booklet’s wording.

Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption

If you are in Ukraine and planning to interrupt your trip due to the war, Trip Interruption coverage is available, provided the advisory was issued after the policy was purchased.

For Trip Cancellation, coverage will be provided if the travel advisory was issued after your policy was purchased and after your trip was booked.

If you are a traveller currently in Ukraine, benefits are not payable for loss or costs incurred due to, contributed to by, or resulting from:

  • war, whether declared or not, or
  • active service in the armed forces of any country
