CARTA’s 2024 Distinguished Volunteers

Margaret Roome has been a volunteer for most of her life, supporting organizations in Drumheller and the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake areas.
Her volunteer work in Drumheller included supporting the Drumheller Swim Club and the Rosedale Girls’ Club.
Margaret has volunteered her time and energy to various organizations in the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake areas over the years, including Women’s Outreach, Cronquist House, and Habitat for Humanity. Margaret has devoted herself to activities in her churches both in Drumheller and Red Deer.
Margaret has been a loyal member and supporter of CARTA for fifteen years, serving on the executive over this period. She has been on the Wellness Committee, the Membership Committee, and the CARTA Arts Committee in conjunction with the Red Deer Cultural Group. Margaret also served on the formative Wellness Committee for ARTA in 2011.
Lyle Meeres has been a valued educator — both before and after retirement — in education circles and in the community.
Lyle started his career with Red Deer Public Schools in 1959 at Westpark Elementary. After his retirement in 1994, Lyle worked as a consultant with the Red Deer Public School Board, with the Alberta Curriculum Board, and served on the Red Deer Library Board.
Lyle’s passion for writing was instrumental to the creation of the CARTA Inkblots writing group in 2016. The group has grown from its modest kitchen-table gatherings to well-attended twice-monthly meetings held at the Timberland Library.
Lyle has been a dedicated supporter of CARTA for twenty years. He has attended many functions and helped out with many jobs at the events. He compiled the history of CARTA and provided most of the historical information currently found on the CARTA website.
